Artist biography

Laia Pla

The artist Laia Pla was born in Badalona (Barcelona) in 1973.

Espai Cavallers Gallery

She studied sculpture at the Pau Gargallo School of Art and Design in Badalona (Barcelona) and fashion design at the Llotja School of Applied Arts and Crafts in Barcelona.

She currently mixes the two disciplines, creating textile sculptures as the basis of his work. Furthermore, she uses other materials to create different experimental lines.

She uses other materials to create different experimental lines. Her work begins in the classic way with modeling clay.

When the mold is made, she experiments with textile, paper, resin, plaster, cement, and whatever comes to mind.

Her work is strong, irreverent, I would even say brutal, but in this context Pla contrasts sinuously with a feminine, sensual and penetrating vision. They are two opposite poles that end up shaking hands in a masterful way.

She works with clothing, leather, cotton thread, paper, wood or French pulp, achieving a suggestive and unusual finish. He dresses his figures, and these exhibit a shocking disturbing and disturbing verisimilitude. She ends the piece by painting what she considers to be the key facial features, to mark her importance. This final effect concludes the piece, and each of its busts acquires its own soul.

Laia Pla’s sculptures catch you in the middle of contradictory emotions, it’s impossible to be indifferent.

She have participated in numerous group exhibitions in Italy (San Vigilio), Estonia and Spain (Huesca, Murcia, Girona, Barcelona, Tarragona, Badalona, Cornellà de Llobregat, Granollers, Mataró, Sitges, Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Holiday cottages near Torredembarra, Mataró and Menorca).

She have exhibited at the Museu de la Música de Barcelona, the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Granollers and the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona, where I have a piece included in the museum’s permanent collection.
