Description of the work

He was born on August 27, 1890 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He was the eldest of three children of Russian Jewish immigrants. In early 1912, the Radnitzky family changed their surname to Ray.
He studied at the National Academy of Design in New York and had his first solo exhibition in 1912. In the spring of 1913, he moved to a small colony of artists based in Ridgefield, New Jersey. the other side of the Hudson River and Manhattan.
With the French painter Marcel Duchamp, he participated in the creation of the Dada group in New York in 1917. Under his influence, he began working with new materials and techniques, such as the use of the airbrush on glass and other surfaces. His ready-mades, such as Regal (1921, New York Museum of Modern Art), are made from everyday objects.
IT WAS MOVED
He moved to Paris in 1921 and developed rayograms, abstract images made by placing objects on light-sensitive surfaces. He made some films such as L'etoile de mer (1928). From 1940 to 1946 he worked as a professor of photography in California (USA).
In 1946 he married Juliette Browner in a double marriage with Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning.
He spent his last years in France, where he experimented with new color photography techniques, and published an autobiography, Self-Portrait (1963).
Man Ray died on November 18, 1976 in Paris. He is buried in Montparnasse Cemetery.
