Joan Hernández Pijuán (Barcelona, ​​1931 - Barcelona, ​​2005)

He was born in Barcelona in 1931. He studied at the Llotja school, the Barcelona School of Arts and Crafts and at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona between 1952 and 1956. In 1953 he had his first exhibition showing a expressionist style and with existential resonance. In 1959, together with Planell, Alcoy, Rovira Brully Terrí founded the Sílex group. His artwork has evolved from early expressionism to geometric figuration. Engraving Prize at the Ljubljana Biennial (1966), National Prize for Fine Arts (1989).

In 1985 the Generalitat awarded him the Creu de Sant Jordi. He was dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona between 1992 and 1997. He has exhibited his work at the Tecla Sala Cultural Center in Hospitalet (1992) and at the Reina Sofia National Museum in Madrid (1993). In 1993, the Queen Sofia National Art Center held an anthological exhibition called Spaces of Silence.

He died on December 28, 2005. In 2011 the Moscow Museum of Modern Art held an exhibition entitled Retrospective on his work.
