‘Beyond the gaze’. In this series, I present portraits of women that invite a deeper reflection on perception and human essence. I have chosen to blur or erase the eyes, traditionally the mirror of the soul, to challenge the way we tend to look at and judge people. It is an invitation to see the invisible: the essence, the emotion, the mystery that dwells in the depths. These figures do not look at us with their eyes, but with their very being, whispering that true beauty cannot be captured at first glance. A journey to feel beyond the surface where true beauty flourishes in the silence of the soul.

Artist biography
Marta Lastra
The artist Marta Lastra participates in Galeria Espai Cavallers
She began her professional career in 2010, exploring various media including photography, painting and collage. Her work has been exhibited at numerous national and international art fairs, such as Justmad, Justlx Lisbon, Artmontpellier, Setup Bologna and Affordable Art Brussels.
Marta Lastra’s work is a journey through the different places where she has lived, a very personal look at her surroundings, both urban and natural.
She builds her space from experience: she photographs, draws, paints and accumulates images that are later transformed into creative material. She uses various technical procedures and incorporates all the expressive resources at her disposal. She resorts to plastic strategies such as collage and the superimposition of planes, while simultaneously exploring pictorial expressiveness and the documentary dimension of photography.
Her work combines lived reality with a constructed reality, configuring a psychic landscape where elements she chooses to preserve coexist with others she opts to eliminate; abstract spaces and recognisable fragments.
In this way, Marta Lastra’s work invites the viewer to reflect on the subjectivity of space, proposing a gaze that goes beyond simple representation and that dialogues with the constructive elements of pictorial language.
