Olivia Mae Pendergast
Olivia Mae Pendergast, North American. artist
Espai Cavallers Gallery
He completed his BA in Columbus College's five-year art and design program and began exhibiting his work in 1999.
After working for five years in the film industry in Los Angeles as a concept designer, the pull to create her own work through the medium of painting was too much to resist. He cut up his credit cards and moved to a cabin in the mountains of Utah to paint, full time.
In 2007, Olivia, formally known as "Holly Mae," moved to Seattle to pursue her creative endeavors in the Pacific Northwest. In 2008 he traveled to Africa for the first time and lived in Malawi while painting the amazing people. He also traveled to Haiti and Bangladesh before leaving the United States to live full-time in Kenya in 2016.
The characters are painted from the front or in profile, without any particular pose, captured "as they are". The body always takes up much more space in proportion to the head. This apparent simplicity hides great creativity and the search for undetectable effects, but the results are obvious, these paintings are beautiful and we are moved.
She currently resides internationally with her daughter and is a full-time artist/mother.
